Honeycomb Theatre and The Empty Space, Salford are looking for short new plays to be presented in a programme of Lunchtime Theatre performances in 2026/27.
We are looking for plays of all styles that can excite, surprise and inspire.
We are particularly looking to work with writers aged 18 and over, based in the North of England or with a connection to the North.
Plays should have an authentic Northern voice whether they can make audiences laugh, cry, think or dream.
We are looking for plays where all characters have their own story and personality, no matter how big or small their role is. We don’t expect characters to conform to outdated gender stereotypes.
Plays can be set in any time period as long as they speak to audiences today, however, they should be able to work without lots of complicated props and set.
Plays must be the original work of the writer and not adaptions of films, novels or other medium.
Plays can be brand new or have had short runs in the past.
- Plays should be written for the stage, must be typed, and in a word or pdf document.
- Plays should last between 15 and 45 minutes.
- Plays must be able to be performed with casts of between one and four actors.
- Plays must be written in English.
- Title of play must be no more than five words long.
All plays submitted will receive short feedback
Honeycomb Theatre may wish to work with writers to further develop selected plays before producing them.
Copyright will remain with the writer.
